Parks and the Equitable City
Thursday, September 6, 2018
7:30 am to 9:00 am
Adrian Benepe, senior vice president and director of City Park Development for The Trust for Public Land (and former parks commissioner for New York City under Mayor Bloomberg) will explore why parks are critical to the success of American cities in the 21st century, how cities are deploying innovative strategies to bring parks within a 10-minute walk of all and what lessons the City of Dallas can both teach to and learn from other major US and international cities. |
Since October 2017, more than 200 mayors signed on to the “10-Minute Walk” campaign, a pledge to bring a high-quality park, trail or green space within walking distance of every resident of their city. At the core of this idea is a powerful commitment to equity, that every resident of a city regardless of age, income, race or ability should have close-to-home access to green space. What would American cities look like if they accomplished this, and what will it take to get there?
