Mobility Task Force Virtual Meeting: TOD Panel - Emerging Projects & Lessons LearnedMobility Task Force will host a panel discussion on “Transit-Oriented Development: Emerging Projects & Lessons Learned.” The Zoom-based virtual meeting is open to members of the Mobility Task Force and all other GDPC members and followers. GDPC’s Andrew Ittigson of AECOM will lead the discussion among our panel of DFW region-based TOD experts:
So-called TOD projects are among the more glamorous urban offerings--making headlines and promising exciting new places amid new, grand connections. The reality is that many fail to live up to those bright hopes. What makes for a “successful” TOD project? What grows the use of public transit, leads to economic development, creates jobs, and brings affordable homes online? What creates “places where people want to go”? That said, who has a stake in TOD? Who should design it? The goal is to give the membership a better understanding of the dynamics of successful transit-oriented projects, from the perspectives of governance, economic development, inter-modal connectivity, equity and design. We’ll talk about the role of DART and TRE in land acquisition & development, how parking requirements can lift or drag development, and how local governments and non-profits can play a vital role. Our panelists are all currently engaged in TOD projects, but will speak to lessons learned from other projects in the region and beyond.
